Pudding Cake From the Baking Tray

Baked desserts don't have to be complicated to be delicious — the proof is in this easy vanilla pudding cake!


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 ⅕ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 vanilla bean


  1. Preheat oven to 320°F. Melt the butter in a pot and set aside. Heat the milk along with the vanilla bean.
  2. Cream the egg yolks with the powdered sugar, melted butter and water. Stir in the flour and milk. Gently add the 4 beaten egg whites into the mixture. Pour batter into a baking dish covered with parchment paper and bake for 40 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
