Saving Dough

What can you make with pizza dough other than, well, pizza? Meet the adult Hot Pockets and cinnamon rolls you didn't know you could afford to make yourself, until now.

Ingredients

  • One pizza dough ball
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 to 10 half-and-half creamers

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out pizza dough into a large circle. Spread softened butter over dough. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over buttered dough. Roll up dough into a large cylinder and cut into 8 pieces (about 3 inches thick). Place pieces in the cast-iron skillet and bake for about 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar and half-and-half. Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

  • One pizza dough ball
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli ham
  • One cup shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Mustard packets, for dipping

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Stretch pizza dough into a large circle. Layout ham and cheese in the center of the dough. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
  2. Fold dough over filling, starting with the top and bottom and then the sides. Flip over and use a knife to make 3 slits in the top of the dough.
  3. Place seam side down in a cast-iron skillet. Bake for 20 minutes. Slice and serve with mustard packets for dipping.

Ingredients

  • One pizza dough ball
  • One can whole, peeled tomatoes, crushed with salt
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  • Pinch red pepper flakes from packet

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Heat a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Stretch pizza dough ball to fit into skillet. Drizzle with oil and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add tomatoes and cheese. Place skillet in oven to bake for about 2 minutes. Remove from oven and top with red pepper flakes.
