Spicy Chicken Tacos

These spicy chicken tacos use habanero peppers to kick things up a notch. Are you up for a delicious challenge?

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breast, cut into small pieces
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup strained tomato sauce (passata)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 habanero/Scotch bonnet pepper, seeded and minced
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Corn tortillas
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Steps

  1. Season chicken breast with salt and pepper and pan-fry in 2 tablespoons of olive oil until browned and cooked through.
  2. For BBQ sauce, heat a small saucepan on medium and add remaining olive oil and the garlic. Sauté until garlic is slightly fragrant, 15-20 seconds.
  3. Add tomato sauce, sugar, vinegar, garlic powder, cumin powder, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, habanero, and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes, until sauce reduces and takes on a deep mahogany color.
  5. Toss chicken in BBQ sauce and set aside.
  6. Mash avocados with lime juice and salt to taste.
  7. To assemble, warm tortillas and top with lettuce, chicken and avocado.
