Swedish Mushroom Sauce Meatballs

Leave it to the Swedes to make the tastiest meatballs in cream sauce.


  • 450 grams ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 12 crackers
  • Chopped parsley
  • Nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper
  • Sauce:
  • 100 grams mushroom
  • 1/2 onion
  • 20 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 400 milliliters milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon bouillon granules
  • Salt
  • Other ingredients:
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley


  1. Place crackers in a ziploc bag and crush finely to make crumbs.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, egg, chopped onion, nutmeg, salt, pepper and cracker crumbs. Mix with your hands until well combined. Mold mixture into meatballs 4mm in size.
  3. In a skillet, heat some oil and cook the meatballs on all sides until slightly charred. Transfer to a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, melt some butter. Add in mushrooms and onions and saute until onions are translucent. Add in flour and cook for 30 seconds. Then add in the milk bouillon granules and salt and cook until sauce has thickened.
  5. Add the meatballs back into the sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle on parmesan cheese and chopped parsley if desired.
