Teriyaki Meat and Potato Roll-Ups

Why have asparagus and potatoes as a side dish, when you can roll them up in beef, then pan-fry to savory perfection?

Ingredients

  • 18 frozen potato wedges
  • 6 thinly-sliced beef
  • 6 asparagus spears
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds
  • 1/2 block grilled tofu
  • Green onions, chopped
  • Sauce:
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 3 tablespoons sake

Steps

  1. First, prepare the asparagus by cutting off the tough stems and outer layers. Boil in a saucepan with a pinch of salt until just tender and cut to the width of the beef slices. Cut grilled tofu into 2 centimeters cubes and set aside.
  2. Spread a beef slice onto your work surface and season with salt and pepper. Arrange three potato wedges and 1 asparagus spear on top and roll up tightly. Sprinkle with flour.
  3. Heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the meat rolls over medium heat. Once the meat is nicely browned on all sides, place blocks of tofu into the pan.
  4. Add in all the sauce ingredients. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the cover and continue simmering until sauce has thickened.
  6. Sprinkle on sesame seeds and serve immediately.
