Tiramisu Donuts

We just transformed your favorite Italian dessert into a fluffy, cream cheese-stuffed doughnut perfect for breakfast ... or whenever.

Ingredients

Doughnuts

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs + 1 large yolk
  • 1 tablespoon espresso powder
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Tiramisu Cream

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup espresso, cooled to room temperature
  • Topping: Grated dark chocolate and powdered sugar

Steps

Doughnuts

  1. Heat milk and water until warm; stir in sugar and active yeast. Let it sit until mixture is foamy.
  2. Pour the yeast mix into a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment.
  3. Add melted butter, eggs and espresso powder.
  4. With the stand mixer at low speed, add half of the flour. Change to hook attachment and add the rest of the flour. Continue to mix until a ball of dough comes together.
  5. Transfer dough to oiled bowl, cover and rest for one hour.
  6. Punch down dough, then turn out onto a floured surface.
  7. Use a round cutter to cut doughnuts. Set aside to rest for 15 minutes.
  8. Fill a large pot with vegetable oil. Heat to 350 degrees F.
  9. Fry doughnuts for 75 seconds, or until they float. Flip and fry for another 60 seconds. Remove and drain on a paper towel. Set aside to cool completely.

Tiramisu Cream

  1. While the doughnuts are cooling, beat heavy whipping cream until you have stiff peaks. Chill until ready to use.
  2. Mix powdered sugar and cream cheese until smooth.
  3. Mix in vanilla extract and the espresso. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Transfer into a piping bag with a large tip. Pipe the tiramisu mix into the center of each doughnut.
  5. Dust with powdered sugar and grate some dark chocolate on top. Enjoy!
