Totoro Skillet Bread

Shareable sweet rolls have never been easier to make ... or more adorable!


  • 30 grams butter
  • 225cc milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 18 grams sugar
  • 1 1/2 salt
  • 300 grams flour
  • 10 grams black sesame paste
  • 10 grams cocoa powder
  • Filling:
  • 30 grams cream cheese
  • 30 grams anko (adzuki bean paste)
  • 30 grams pumpkin paste
  • White chocolate
  • Dark chocolate
  • Mint leaf
  • Pink peppercorns


  1. Combine butter and milk in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds at 500 watts.
  2. Add in dry yeast, salt, sugar and flour and mix well.
  3. Knead dough for 5 minutes, then divide into three even portions.
  4. Mix in black sesame paste into one portion of dough and cocoa powder into another portion of dough. Put each dough portion into separate bowls. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 30 seconds at 200 watts.
  5. Divide dough and shape into pieces for the individual parts of the bread.
  6. Cover with a moist towel and let them sit for 30 minutes.
  7. Once they have expanded to double its size, they are ready to use.
  8. Put fillings inside and arrange around the skillet.
  9. Cover big Totoro and medium-sized Totoro with white dough to make the stomach.
  10. Use the cocoa dough for the girl's hair.
  11. Bake for 20 minutes at 130 degrees C, making sure not to let the bread get brown.
  12. Once bread has cooled, decorate with chocolate, mint and peppercorns.
