Twisted Sour Cream & Onion Garlic Bread

Garlic lovers won't be able to resist this twisted bread layered with sour cream and a flavorful scallion and chive pesto.

  • For the chive scallion pesto:
  • 1 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 1 bunch scallions, ends trimmed, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup white cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • For the bread:
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons onion salt

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add the flour and sea salt, and knead well. Cover and let rest for 1 hour.
  3. In a food processor fitted with the blade attachment, pulse chives and scallions to a mince. Add olive oil and pulse to combine. Stir in cheeses, and set aside. In a small bowl, mix sour cream and onion salt, and divide the mixture in half.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a 6 x 8-inch rectangle. Spread half the sour cream over the dough. Drizzle the pesto over the sour cream.
  5. Roll the dough lengthwise into a large tube. With a sharp knife, cut in half lengthwise to reveal the center. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet, and braid with the open center facing up.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes or until golden. Serve warm with remaining sour cream and onion dip.
