Vegan BBQ Tempeh Burger

Enjoy this loaded vegan BBQ burger topped with spicy BBQ mayo without any guilt!


  • For the Patties:
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 3 tbsp. water
  • 1 8-oz package tempeh
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 cup cooked black beans
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • For the Spicy BBQ Mayo:
  • 1/4 cup bbq sauce
  • 1/3 cup vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp. Sriracha
  • For the Burger:
  • 4 vegan burger buns
  • 1 cup mixed springs greens
  • 1 tomato, sliced


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the ground flax seeds and water in a small bowl. Set aside for at least 5 minutes to thicken.
  3. Crumble the tempeh in a large bowl, and then add the paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder and toss to combine.
  4. Add the black beans, flaxseed mixture, olive oil, BBQ sauce, and green onions. Mix together until all the ingredients are combined and slightly mashed.
  5. Divide the mixture in 4 even portions and shape into patties.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While burgers are in the oven, prepare the bbq mayonnaise.
  8. Assemble the burger and serve immediately.
