Venezuelan Arepas

Fill up on these fried cornmeal pockets stuffed with steak & cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup masarepa
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 LB skirt steak
  • 1 chopped red pepper
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1 Small carrot
  • 2 Cups Lager
  • 1/2 Tbsp Cumin
  • 1/2 Tbsp Paprika
  • Salt

Steps

  1. Mix masarepa, salt, and water. Use cold water for an extra crispy arepa
  2. Let it rest and divide in 150 grams balls. Form discs and pan-fry on both sides
  3. Sear the steak, cover in lager and simmer for one hour
  4. Fry onions, red pepper, and a carrot and aromatics. Add shredded steak
  5. Fill arepas with the hot steak and grated cheese
